INDIANA CHAPTER - The November meeting of Indiana IMAPS was held on November 9 at BAE Systems/Cincinnati Electronics in Mason, Ohio. Prior to the meeting, attendees were given a tour of the facility by Director of Operations Gregg Ridgley and members of his staff. Clayton Sippola of Cincinnati Electronics gave a presentation on Fine Feature Thick Film Screening, and Dr. Andrew Mason of the University of Kentucky spoke on Microinstruments: Small, Low-Power Embedded Systems for Measurement and Control. The December meeting of Indiana IMAPS was held December 7 in Kokomo, IN. Jon Medernach of Panasonic Factory Automation spoke on 0201 Chip Component Placement Considerations and Guidelines. The meeting was a joint meeting with Indiana SMTA. The next meeting will be held Thursday, Janurary 11 at the Trails Restaurant in West Lafayette, IN. The speaker is Hui Wang from Kester Solder, who will be speaking on A Novel Single Pass Reflow Encapsulentor Flip Chip Application. NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER – The New England Chapter of IMAPS would like to announce its 2000 Chapter Award Winners. Phillip Creter, Polymer Flip Chip Corp., has been awarded the 2000 George Hanow Award for Outstanding Service to the New England Chapter and the Society. This award was created in 1996 as a means of recognizing individuals who have given their time and energy to build and sustain IMAPS (formerly ISHM). It was named in honor of the First President of the New England Chapter of ISHM, who was a quiet and gentle individual who gave selflessly and was highly respected by his peers. George passed away in 1996. Phil has been a member of the society since 1974 and is an IMAPS Fellow. He has served the New England Chapter in almost every leadership role including Chapter President four separate times and has served as the National Treasurer for the society. Congratulations Phil! Amitron, Inc. has been awarded the 2000 Howard Beck Award. This award is presented to a local company which has demonstrated outstanding support of the local chapter and the national organization over time. Amitron, Inc. has been a member of IMAPS for over 15 years and has supported the industry and the society in many ways. Congratulations to Amitron, Inc.! IMAPS National would like to congratulate these Award Winners and would like to congratulate the New England Chapter on its 30th Anniversary Celebration. ORANGE CHAPTER - The Orange Chapter of IMAPS held its election for the upcoming year. Congratulations to the following new slate of officers: Bill Gaines – President, Hossein Ahmad - Vice President and Technical Program Chairman, Al Solomon – Secretary, August Villegas – Treasurer, Mike Alderete - 1st Past President. The Chapter would like to extend a gracious thanks to the departing officers for all of their hard work and dedication to IMAPS and to the Orange Chapter. Thank you to Misri Lal for his efforts in coordinating the Orange Chapter Board Elections. Please be sure to mark your calendars for SoCal 2001 to be held May 15-16, 2001 in Pasadena, CA. The Orange Chapter of IMAPS is proud to announce the birth of a new Student Chapter under its guidance. The University of California, Irvine Student Chapter was chartered during IMAPS 2000 in Boston. The chapter has 18 Charter Members and two Student Advisors – Dr. Frank Shi and Dr. Andrew Shapiro.

PHOENIX CHAPTER - The Phoenix Chapter of IMAPS held its first technical meeting in over 3 years on November 9th. The meeting was held at the Grace Inn in Ahwatukee, AZ, and was a huge success. Lee Smith, Director of New Product Development for Amkor Technology, educated the 33 attendees on 3D Packaging - Stacked Chip and Package Stacking. The large number of questions from the attendees indicated a strong interest in this topic. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for the 18th or the 25th of January. SAN DIEGO CHAPTER - The San Diego Chapter of IMAPS held its election for the upcoming year. Congratulations to the following new slate of officers: Ken Kuang – Chairman, Steve Adamson – Chairman, Elizabeth Basinet – Secretary, Marshall Verbon – Treasurer, Martin Greenfield - 1st Past Chairman. The Chapter would like to extend a gracious thanks to the departing officers for all of their hard work and dedication to IMAPS and to the San Diego Chapter.
