Another Northwest Chapter Colleague Remembers Paul Parks, Sr.
The Northwest chapter has lost one of the chapter founders and stalwarts of our Industry and IMAPS, Paul Parks, Sr., who passed away October 26, 2000.
I met Paul in the early '70s at the first meeting of colleagues from Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver, British Columbia, as we were trying to establish a Northwest chapter of ISHM. That meeting led to the founding of the chapter and electing the first officers. Paul was one of the co-founders and served as our first chapter president.
Paul was also instrumental in establishing the chapter by-laws which shaped and guided our activities throughout the many years. I had the privilege of working closely with Paul while serving as the first chapter secretary and on many future endeavors. Paul had unlimited energy which he directed towards education in support of our industry and the growth and stability of ISHM/IMAPS. I remember Paul’s excitement when he started PM Industries and his insight and courage to establish Techceram and PM Laser Products.
When Paul and I received our Fellow awards at the same time in 1982, I knew I was in good company. Paul served as National President of IMAPS the year ahead of me and was a valuable inspiration and constant mentor throughout my time on the Executive Council. Paul was a good teacher and I benefited greatly from his insight and wisdom. He was always just a phone call away when I needed him. I thank him for that. Paul’s contributions to IMAPS and our industry were very significant and our society has benefited greatly for him having been part of it.
Paul will be greatly missed by his colleagues and family.
