IMAPS 2001 Technical Program
Bruce Romenesko, Technical Chair
The IMAPS 2001 Technical Program will begin with the Professional Development Courses on Sunday and Monday, October 7 and 8. Following will be the exhibits and papers from Tuesday, October 9 through Thursday, October 11. All will be held in the Baltimore Convention Center between Baltimore’s Camden Yards stadium and the Inner Harbor. As it is shaping up, we should have a high quality program, with IMAPS continuing to advance into some of the newer and “hotter” program areas. The 2001 committee and the IMAPS National Technical Committee have been actively soliciting papers in photonics, electro-optics and MEMS packaging to complement the more established areas of past programs. Of course, the members of the NTC deserve a word of thanks for their efforts in making sure the papers are of a quality deserving of our audience’s time; it’s a job that is important, but easy to overlook.
Remember the saying the “Everything old is new again?” Well, we’re also planning to revive the plenary session as part of the Tuesday morning symposium kickoff. This is to be a session of notables ñ a speaker worth listening to, and awards to notable papers and people of the year. Look for the speaker and topic in your initial program announcement, and the awardees in subsequent IMAPS communications.
Phil Hider is putting together a noteworthy slate of Professional Development Courses, and gives you the salient points in his column in this issue. My thanks to Phil for doing so well in pulling this part of our program together. We’ve tried to pick PDCs that complement the program of the symposium, to further increase the value of this meeting to IMAPS membership.
You have a symposium committee and a NTC that are working hard to make your visit to Baltimore worthwhile professionally. For your leisure time, the hotels and convention center are located in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor area, giving you many choices within easy walking distance. The nearby neighborhoods of Little Italy, Federal Hill, and downtown all offer night spots, attractions and restaurants that help you better understand the meaning of "Welcome to Bawlmer, Hon!"
