AWARDS
Greg Caswell
Every year at this time we ask you to recognize those IMAPS members who have given their time, energy, and expertise to ensure the excellence of our industry by nominating them for one of our prestigious awards. Whether they demonstrate this dedication by the excellent technical work they do, volunteer their time at the chapter level, or become active in national and international activities, it is vital to maintaining the high quality of our endeavors. We would not be the strong international society we are if it were not for all of these efforts. Now we have the opportunity to let them know that we value their dedication and that their hard work has not gone unnoticed.
The four individual awards presented annually are: the Daniel D. Hughes, Jr. Memorial Award; the William D. Ashman Achievement Award; the John A. Wagnon Technical Achievement Award, and the Fellow of Society Award.
The Corporate Recognition Award is the highest honor IMAPS gives to the companies that have made beneficial contributions to our Society and the microelectronics and packaging industries.
Nominees for each award are selected by the Awards Committee, which is made up of members from each of the eight regions in the U.S. and an international representative. The Committee is chaired by the First Past President. The 2001-2002 Awards Committee is actively seeking nominations for the categories listed above. You may submit nominations to your Chapter President, Regional Director, or you may send them to me personally. Criteria for each award are as follows:
Daniel C. Hughes Jr. Memorial Award is the highest, most prestigious honor, and is awarded to the individual who, in the opinion of the Awards Selection Committee, has the strongest list of technical achievements relating to microelectronics combined with, as appropriate, outstanding contributions supporting the industry, academic achievement, or support and service to IMAPS. Recipients of the award become Life Members of IMAPS.
William D. Ashman Achievement Award is the most prestigious award presented to the person who has performed outstanding service in contributing to the electronic packaging industry and who invented or developed a concept, product, component, or process that has made an impact on the industry.
Fellow of the Society honors and recognizes those who have made important and continuing contributions to IMAPS over the years. Some criteria for this distinction include:
1) Membership in IMAPS for 10 or more years
2) Service to IMAPS as a local or national officer
3) Service to IMAPS as a local or national committee member, and
4) Presentation of papers at local or national symposia.
John A. Wagnon Technical Achievement Award focuses specifically on contributions made to the technical knowledge of the industry. This award may be given for a specific accomplishment, for a number of accomplishments over several years, or for general overall technical contributions to the hybrid microelectronics industry.
The Corporate Recognition Award honors a company or an appropriate division or department of a company that, in the opinion of the Awards Selection Committee, has provided significant technical contributions to the microelectronics industry while supporting IMAPS through participation as a corporate member, symposia exhibitions, and encouragement and support of individual membership involvement in IMAPS for employees and associates.
Nominations must be received by March 15, 2002. Awards nomination forms can be obtained on-line at www.imaps.org or by contacting Douglas Paul at IMAPS headquarters, dpaul@imaps.org.
