Thanks
As seasons follow one another, we are coming to the close of another year. Although it has not been a ‘good’ year in many senses, I am still thankful for many things about 2001.
This year has brought us all our own set of individual joys and sorrows. In addition, we in the Untied States have suffered the national sorrow of terrorism attacks on the US, both here (New York City and Washington DC) and abroad (the USS Cole). Despite the terrible toll that has been exacted, the human spirit refuses to give up. For the resilience of the human spirit, I am thankful.
This year has seen many in our industry faced with an economic slowdown, resulting in loss of jobs. Yet many of our colleagues were helped through this tough time by their friends and professional acquaintances. For those friends and acquaintances who helped a friend in need, I am thankful.
This year has seen Mother Nature unleash fury on us in many ways the coldest winter in many years, draught in the summer, flooding in August (a cruel irony the draught-baked earth could not absorb the twelve inch per hour rains in Houston and Louisiana), tropical storms in September, and more. These disasters led to local heroes springing up from nowhere to help, provide, assist, and comfort although they were facing the same disasters. For these local heroes and what they did, I am thankful.
As we head into 2002, we hope and pray for a full recovery of our economy, for those who are ill, and for our belief and trust in the goodness of people. For those who did not make it through 2001, our thoughts, prayers, and good wishes are with their families.
May you find 2002 to be happy, peaceful, and prosperous. I know the officers and staff of IMAPS join me in wishing you the best in the coming year!
