IMAPS 2001
Message from the General Chair
IMAPS 2001 is just around the corner! We hope you are looking forward to coming to Baltimore, Maryland, and enjoying the fruits of our labors. Our plans for IMAPS 2001 have been “bursting with innovation” just as have the microelectronics technologies showcased therein. Here’s a synopsis of some of the things you can expect to see at IMAPS 2001.
We have ad-justed the mix of Professional Development Courses (PDCs) a bit and have included an additional “hands-on” factory-training workshop. A full 14 pages in the Advance Program are devoted to these presentations. Some of the new instructor faces that you will see during the PDCs are the result of a successful regional meeting held here during the Spring of 2000. Let us know what you think of these new offerings.
Have you seen the IMAPS 2001 poster? The Big Blue Poster clearly illustrates the importance of photonics/optoelectronics packaging to the microelectronics industry. The MMRC meeting before the show and the ATW after the show both address this subject. A session within the Technical Program and numerous Exhibitor offerings round out a strong presence in this area.
The Technical Program will begin with a Plenary Session and will include a Poster Session as well. The many Technical Program sessions will present the latest information in areas of advancing technology such as MEMS packaging and copper wire bonding/reliability. Check out the Show web site, www.imaps2001.org or the Advance Program for much more detailed information on the Technical Program.

The Exhibits, of course, will complement the Technical Program. You will be well pleased with the number and variety of Exhibitors at IMAPS 2001. Even in late June, as this is being written, we have already exceeded the number of Exhibitors that were budgeted for the Show. Perhaps we will be able to sell out the Exhibition Hall. Help us out! It’s still not too late if you haven’t already registered as an Exhibitor! Baltimore offers one of the best locations in the U.S. for the Show due to a number of factors including reasonable costs, a good transportation system, and a strong regional industry presence.

We are going to have plenty of fun, too. Join us for the Welcome Reception and make sure you participate in the two free lunches and the Octoberfest in the Exhibition Hall. Sign up for the Golf Classic that benefits the IMAPS Educational Foundation. Our Spouse/Guest Program promises to take participants to several of the premier attractions in the Baltimore area. I wish I could go! The Silent Auction will be a lot of fun as we bid on interesting items. You can still contribute to the Silent Auction! Go ahead and contribute something (Collectible? Unusual? Use your imagination!). Then enjoy seeing who “bites” during the bidding. It’s all for the benefit of the IMAPS Educational Foundation.
Those of us who have served on the Steering Committee have enjoyed working with the Headquarters Staff during the last two years while we sculpted the Symposium and Exhibition. Sometimes we weren’t sure what the result was going to look like! However, we hope that the result is pleasing to YOU, the attendee, as that is now and has always been our only goal.
See you in early October at IMAPS 2001!
