Wilkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome!

As the Master of Ceremonies in Cabaret says in 3 languages, WELCOME! Although these three languages represent only a small portion of the many native languages that our IMAPS members speak, the sentiment is the same in all of them.

Welcome to the ‘show’ issue of IMAPS. This issue typically focuses on the IMAPS Symposium, being held this year in Baltimore, MD. As usual, the technical committee and corporate office have teamed together, working hard to provide an enjoyable experience that promises to educate, enlighten, prompt new ways of thinking, and provide opportunities to renew old friendships and make new acquaintances. Also, the harbor town of Baltimore has its own temptations — from the historical (Fort McHenry) to the relaxing (the aquarium, Harbor Place). A short train ride from our nation’s capital, Baltimore is a great place to visit as well as a great Symposium site.

The technical Symposium offers a wide variety of topics to tempt you. In addition to the ‘workhorse’ topics that have been established but continue to improve through both incremental improvements and innovation, there are new topics that are on the leading edge of our industry. Several papers from international members ensure that the information is truly global in nature. And as always, papers that are considered to be ‘best in session’ will be awarded on-site; and the symposium also awards a ‘best in conference’ paper.

On the exhibits side, our vendors are ready to demonstrate the latest in techniques, tools, equipment, and processes. The exhibit hall has been a perennial favorite among our attendees, allowing them to compare and contrast techniques, processes, and equipment on-site; learn new methods for doing challenging processes; and make new contacts on site. The exhibitors also find that the IMAPS attendees are among the most technically astute in the industry, and always provide enthusiastic, and sometimes thought-provoking, feedback on their exhibit. It’s truly a win-win situation for all involved.

As we approach the fall, with changes in weather, returns to school, and the end of vacations for many of us, I hope that you continue to grow in technical vitality. Attending the Symposium and reading the Journal are two ways that IMAPS can help you do that!

Thanks,
Mary McDonald
