NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER The final event of the IMAPS NEW ENGLAND 2000-2001 Program Year was held on Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Holiday Inn Boxborough Woods Conference Center, Boxborough, Mass. The combined Technical Meeting and Chapter Annual Business Meeting featured Gordon C. Brown of Corning Lasertron, who gave an informative presentation on the challenges of Optoelectronic Packaging & Interconnection being driven by today’s exploding wireless/fiber-optic applications. The Chapter’s Annual Meeting is traditionally devoted to a timely issue and this year was no exception. Approximately 90 people, including many new faces, filled the Grand Ballroom, listened intently, then fired questions at our presenter who was subsequently encircled by a group of fans at the conclusion of the session.
The Annual Business Meeting of the New England Chapter was convened by John Redman, Chapter President, who then reprised his year in office and recognized the support of his individual committee members. John called for a summary of the Chapter’s financial position, which was then presented by Todd Rivard, Chapter Treasurer. Next, Chapter Elections were conducted by Harvey Smith, Past President, on behalf of John Snook, Chairman of the Chapter Nominating Committee. The four current officers were re-elected without dissent and the Business Meeting was adjourned. The Chapter Officers for 2001-2202 are: President - John Redman, Accumet Engineering; Vice-President - Susan Munyon, Zecal; Treasurer - Todd Rivard, RIV, Inc.; and Secretary - Thomas Marinis, Draper Laboratory.
In recognition of the growing importance of Optoelectronics Packaging in our industry, the Chapter Technical Program Committee is planning a special session dedicated to the topic for its 29th Annual Symposium & Exhibition, May 7, 2002. Information concerning the New England Chapter and its Annual Symposium & Exhibition may be found at www.imapsne.org or by contacting Harvey Smith, Publicity Chair [harveys@imapsne.org].
