Destination Denver 2002 Symposium
The Symposium committee members are gearing up to present a wonderful experience for you in Denver, September, 2002.
Plan to come for Labor Day weekend and enjoy the many activities that Denver offers before the conference begins!
Easily located around downtown Denver and the Adam’s Mark Hotel, you will be able to participate in the “Festival of Mountain and Plain, Taste of Colorado.” The festival takes place Friday, August 30th through Monday, September 2 in Civic Center Park.
Admission is free with events for the whole family. Enjoy gourmet foods, demonstrations by local chefs, arts and crafts, carnival rides, mining exhibits, Colorado history with Native American demonstrations, hands on activities for children and some fine musical entertainment on a variety of stages. Also located close to the downtown area are Six Flags Elitch Gardens, an amusement park, and Ocean’s Journey Aquarium (www.oceanjourney.org).
Denver offers a great Botanical Garden as well as the historical landmark the Molly Brown House, as well as the Capitol building, all located in downtown.
Take a short drive west of Denver and tour the famous Coors Brewery in Golden. The brewery offers free tours daily (except Labor Day) with tasting and a gift shop with plenty of souvenirs.
For those interested, there is also a quilting museum in downtown Golden as well as the School of Mines.
Denver is the home of the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The Rockies will play the San Francisco Giants August 26-29, then after a road trip, return to play at Coors Field with games against the San Diego Padres September 6-8. Coors Field is available for tours during away game dates. Call 800-338-ROCK after February 23 for home game tickets.
The Cart Races are part of the 2002 CART FedEx Championship Series, the Grand Prix of Denver is scheduled for the weekend of August 30 - September 1, 2002. The temporary street circuit near downtown Denver is 1.65 miles long, comprises nine turns and features 12 spectator grandstands. Two support races include the Trans-Am Series for the B.F. Goodrich Tires Cup and the Toyota Atlantic Championship. For ticket information, call (888)82-SPEED or visit www.denvergrandprix.com.
One of the spouse/guest tours will take us to Red Rocks Park, the rock formation outdoor auditorium, and continuing to Boulder, CO for a visit to Celestial Seasonings Tea Factory (www.celestialseasoning.com) where we will sample tea, have lunch, tour the factory and browse the gift shop. A short distance from Celestial Seasonings, we will tour the Leanin’ Tree Museum of Western Art (www.leanintree.com), one of the nation’s largest private collection of Western Art. Leanin’ Tree also produces western greeting cards that may be purchased at the museum.
The committee is also working on offering a “dude” ranching experience and mountain day trip. More on this later!
We hope you will bring the family for Labor Day weekend before the Symposium and enjoy the many activities Colorado can offer. Don’t forget the great outdoors—hiking, fly fishing, rafting and Rocky Mountain National Park. The weather should be great for this Destination Denver 2002.
